Metroid Prime (04/03/2004)
Options: (Print) (Send)
Samus finally returns... in 3D.

Graphics

To put it simply, the graphics in Metroid prime are absolutely beautiful. When I first placed the game disk into my Gamecube I was amazed by the level of detail and effort that was put into this game. The enemies are gorgeous as are the snow, rain, and fire effects which are all beautifully done.

Sound

The sound effects in this game really bring it to life. Both weapons and enemies are brought to life with the unique noises from each. The music is both intense and smooth to give the game the most realistic feel possible.

Gameplay

This is the games best feature in my opinion. The controls are tight and extremely easy to learn. Within the first few minutes of gameplay, you'll be able to move Samus around with ease. There are plenty of puzzles for you to take on and none of them are too repetative. With tons of places to explore this game and a non-linear story. Being the first 3D game in the Metroid series its nice to see that nearly everything is executed with perfection.

Story

Probably one of the game's only downsides. As far as story goes, there really isn't much of one to talk about. Samus gets distress call from Tallon IV, Samus goes to Tallon IV, Samus shoots monsters on Tallon IV and that basically sums up the plot of the game.

Summary

Overall, Metroid Prime turns out to be one of the best Gamecube titles to date. The jump from a 2D side-scrolling game to a 3D was masterfully done. While the story does pull it down a tad, the graphics, gameplay and sound more then make up for it leaving Metroid Prime as a must-buy for any gamer. BM
