Graphics
The graphics in HOTD 3 are quite good but as this makes the game more gory and isn’t for the faint hearted, there is a option to turn the blood off in the game but it doesn’t make much difference as the enemies take damage and have bullet holes outlined with blood. The graphics have improved tremendously from HOTD 2 in HOTD 3 to bring the various enemies and friends to live and make the game that much more believable.
Sound
The sound in this game isn’t amazingly brilliant but it does the job. The gunshot sounds are okay, but tend to be repetitive when you’re constantly hearing “bang bang bang.“ There is hardly any music in the backround, and most of the time you can only hear zombies groaning away.
Gameplay
If you’ve ever played House of the Dead 1 or 2 on Dreamcast, you’ll be familiar with the gameplay, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The gameplay is basically just shooting the enemies which can get tiresome after a while. The bosses are quite imaginary which gives the game some variations, each with their different weaknesses which are often told to you. This game is more enjoyable when played with a light gun (see gaming hardware reviews). The best part of House of the Dead 2 appears to have been left out of this game, namely the
Story
After the 1998 incident in which a zombie mad doctor tried to destroy humanity, the world has been on the brink of destruction. You play as either Lisa or G to fight off the zombies and what not to find out the truth about what’s really going on. Lisa has her own personal goal in this though as her father was an agent like she is, and she wanted to find out what he did for a living and what it was like. Pretty interesting!
Summary
A great game for fans of the series, but in my option better for newcomers. The graphics and the storyline really make this game what it is. With all the extras included in this game (An unlockable version of HOTD 2 is included) it doesn’t get boring quickly. Definitely not for the faint of heart. SP
