Sly 2: Band of Thieves (30/06/2004)
Options: (Print) (Send)
Sly Cooper returns, and this time he has his own squad.

The original Sly Cooper was an excellent but overlooked game. Essentially a stealth and platforming game, the title was lost amidst the holiday season (too many titles gather attention at the time). Now the team at Sucker Punch is hard at work to a sequel.

One of the first things you notice when looking at the game is that it is just as gorgeous as the original. The game really resembles a living cartoon, and makes ample use of cel shading. The graphics style really draws you into the game, as does the sound, which may remind you of some of the Saturday morning cartoons of the past.

One of the problems with the original Sly Cooper was that the game was fairly linear, and so the game was also relatively short. For the sequel, Sucker Punch has made several key changes. First of all, Sly 2 will have more open ended environments, providing more freedom when playing. The second change is that you will also be able to control a squad of three thieves. This will be an important factor when you must pull off heists in the game. Sly will also have new moves at his disposal to help him along, including the ability to crawl through vents, stealth attacks, and pick pocketing. Along with these changes, Sucker Punch is also promising that Sly 2 should be a much longer game than the original.

Even at this early stage, the game is looking great. Sucker Punch has plenty of time to fine tune the game, so the final result should be amazing. Sly 2 will give you freedom to pull off heists the way you want, mixed with humour not unlike that in Jak and Daxter. Sly 2 will be released in October.
