Gizmondo not to support homebrew software (21/10/2004)
Options: (Print) (Send)
Gizmondo is sure to make a big push in the commercial games department.

After a word or two with Gizmondo about the possibilities of Homebrew software - software, games and utilities developed for the Gizmondo handheld by private or hobbyist coders - we were quite shocked by the news that the Gizmondo will not support any homebrew software or games on launch. Zero, zip, none.

This means that Gizmondo will have to make sure the games they sign and approve for the Gizmondo are both plentiful and of the highest quality. The Gizmondo will have no underground community to fall back on should the games they supply not sell the unit.

This is not to say, however, that there will never be a homebrew scene for the Gizmondo. A signing process similar to that of Tapwave could be implemented at a later date, or the Gizmondo could become an open ended system like the GP32 and we may still see our favourite emulators ported to this promising and powerful system.

At the moment we have nothing but speculation as to how Gizmondo approach to homebrew on the Gizmondo will change but if and when the flood of emulators, utilities and ported games appears, Gaming Headlines will be sure to cover them and bring you the best of both worlds. PH
