Yesterday saw the launch of the much-awaited PSP in North America. Like the launch of the Nintendo DS back in November, many stores, including GameStop, have opened at midnight despite the freezing temperatures to celebrate the launch of the PSP.
The Value Pack, which goes for sale at a whopping $250 ($100 more than the Nintendo DS), includes the PSP itself, an AC adaptor, a standard battery, a 32MB Memory Stick Duo, a pair of headphones with an in-line remote, s slip case, a demo UMD disc and a cleaning cloth. Most of these items are unnecessary, but the fact that the first million Value Packs have also shipped with a copy of the movie Spider-Man 2 on UMD is compelling.
"The launch of PSP in North America marks a new chapter in portable entertainment, giving consumers the freedom to access the entirety of their entertainment options without sacrificing quality all through one extraordinary product,” said Kaz Hirai, president and chief executive officer, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "As the tremendous response to PSP continues to grow, we are redefining the marketplace with a comprehensive portable entertainment system."
In what could be one of the biggest handheld launch line-ups ever, the following titles are now in stores:
- Ape Escape: On the Loose
- ATV Offroad Fury: Blazin' Trails
- Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower
- Dynasty Warriors
- FIFA 2005
- Gretzky NHL
- Lumines
- Metal Gear Acid
- MLB
- MVP Baseball
- NBA
- NBA Street Showdown
- Need for Speed Rivals
- NFL Street 2 Unleashed
- Rengoku: Tower of Purgatory
- Ridge Racer
- Smartbomb
- Spider-Man 2
- Tiger Woods PGA TOUR
- Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix
- Twisted Metal: Head On
- Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade
- Wipeout Pure
- World Tour Soccer
However, a lot of consumers have complained that dead pixels could be found on their PSP, which is a bit disappointing considering Sony are refusing to replace the flawed units.
