Nintendo has announced that the Nintendo DS has achieved strong sales in Australia, breaking previous hardware records in the past five years. Although no sales figures were released to support their claim, it looks as though Nintendo is very pleased with the way its handheld is doing.

“The retail and consumer feedback from Thursday’s Nintendo DS launch has been astounding, ” said Rose Lappin, Director of Sales and Marketing, Nintendo Australia. “We are eagerly awaiting the official market sales figures this week to fully solidify our place in the Australian marketplace as the most successful current hardware launch ever!”

With less than two weeks left until the European launch of the Nintendo DS, we can only hope a similar success will happen in Europe.
