Saitek's Eclipse Keyboard and Gaming Mouse (15/04/2005)

Can form and function live in harmony?
This years Computer Trade Show saw Saitek exhibiting some of their latest and greatest computer peripherals.

The latest - and our most anticipated - is the new Gaming Keyboard - Dubbed the Eclipse - and a Gaming mouse as its perfect counter-part. Alongside these mouthwateringly beautiful gaming peripherals sat the
Optical Notebook Coloured Mice, which we reviewed early this year.

Expect to see reviews of both the Eclipse and the Gamers' Mouse soon, in the meantime read on for a brief run-down of the products and take a gander at the shots on the left!

Saitek Eclipse Keyboard
Inspired by the backlit Saitek PC Gamer’s Keyboard introduced in September 2004, the Saitek Eclipse features a host of technology enhancements and redesigns that enable the use of the keyboard in not just low-light conditions, but total darkness. Where the original Saitek PC Gamer’s Keyboard featured cool blue backlighting to aid gamers playing under low-light situations, the new Eclipse features TruVu keys that actually allow the ultra blue lighting to glow through each laser-etched key – making it possible to read the keys in the dark.
The Saitek Eclipse keyboard’s filtered and laser-etched keys allow just the right amount of light to pass through the etched lettering – too much and it becomes a blur, not enough and it’s unclear. For additional flexibility, the Saitek Eclipse has two levels of illumination to offer the perfect lighting balance for true viewability.

Saitek Gaming Mouse
Designed specifically to give gamers additional functionality, the Saitek Gaming Mouse features a “Turbo” button to switch between 800 or 1600 DPI resolution for ultra fast and highly accurate mouse tracking. Six programmable buttons mean in-game commands normally reserved for keyboard buttons can be accessed directly from the mouse, improving gameplay.
For non gaming use, the Gaming Mouse’s additional buttons also offer a range of functions including preset macros where user-programmed keystroke sequences can be activated or MS Office applications opened with a single mouse button press.
