Panzers Phase Two (05/05/2005)
Options: (Print) (Send)
More rolling metal death

Following the success of the first Panzers title, CDV are bringing us a sequel, barely a year later. Phase Two promises to retain the same entertaining tank action that made the original so spectacular, but enhancing the formula in various areas.

There are three separate campaigns to pursue, each from a different perspective in the war. You can play as the Anglo-American Allies, the German-Italian Axis, or the Yugoslavian resistance forces, throughout scenarios in Africa, Italy, Sicily and the former Yugoslavia. Lush and varied settings indeed for us to trundle our tanks through.

The developers are keen to emphasise the mission variety on offer. Apparently all the missions will play differently, with unique objectives and different tactics required to successfully complete each one. There are also plenty of secondary objectives in each mission, as well as some secret tasks that sound particularly interesting.

Graphics come courtesy of the updated Gepard 3D engine, which has been overhauled significantly since the original Panzers. There are also hundreds of new models, items and scenery additions to make the game world a more detailed and immersive setting.

The game even has a story penned by two top Hollywood screenwriters, and semi-famous voice actors such as Paul Weller, better known for his role in Robocop. Add in dynamic weather effects, a day/night cycle which can be utilised for stealth purposes, and various multiplayer modes including co-operative, and Panzer Phase Two is certainly something to notch onto your wish list.

The game will be released next month. Keep your eyes open for a GH review!
