In the run up to the 28th April release date, and the final beta/press event this weekend the Guild Wars gurus at AreaNet have been churning out some tasty gameplay movies to take a gander at.
The latest movie will be available at 16:00 today (or 4pm, if you like) and will top the list of gameplay movies - so watch that space.
We have taken a rather late look at Guild Wars and have to say that we are throughly impressed with what we see. The engine delivers lush, detailed graphics and picturesque scenery to rival even the system-crushing might of EverQuest 2 without melting your graphics card.
Guild Wars offers all the frills of your standard MMORPG combined with the lush graphics, beautifully crafted locations and hugely varied enemies. It shows promise, oodles of it, and when I start throwing around money it will be my choice of MMORPG - particularly if they give us a Mac version.
What's more, leaving a town with a party of friends (or by yourself) spawns your own copy of the game world in which you can adventure to your hearts content without being bothered by unruly players or having to wait in line to take your swipes at spawning monstors. The single biggest headache in all my MMORPG playing life was the (un)delightful antics of other players, through my days of playing classics like En Slayers and Faldon I repeatedly got my behind kicked and fought other players over valuable and limited spawn points. I am glad to see what Guild Wars lets me scale an MMORPG down to a Diablo style bout of monstor hunting with a few good friends when I want to get down to the nitty-gritty of levelling up.
