Since Silent Hunter II graced our screens as the
best submarine simulation of all time several months back, few have
contemplated what will be next on the sub depot gaming bill. This time,
it is not a newcomer.
Enigma: Rising Tide was released in 2003, but now it has been updated and
re-released as a gold edition. Improvements include: new missions, new
weapons, remodelled ships with improved textures, more dynamic special effects,
direct control of environmental effects, a fully re-purposed interface for
improved functionality and improved voice command performance. The
complete Enigma Rising Tide soundtrack is also included.
Yes, as many will remember, one of the finest, and indeed funniest parts of
Enigma was the voice recognition integration which allowed for entire control
over your metal fish by means of your voice alone. Excellent when it
worked well, and you felt like a true commander, but not so great when it
mistook your directional instructions for a surfacing command, planting you
neatly into the vision of a fleet of destroyers.
Enigma: Rising Tide - Gold Edition is released this month for a penny short of
£20. Expect a review shortly.
