I'm a Mac user. I'm a Mac user who has a Bluetooth Apple Mouse. I'm a Mac user who has a Bluetooth Apple Mouse, yet plugged in a regular Saitek USB one for general use.
Why?
Well, it's no secret that Apple has been lightyears behind in the mouse department since... well... ever. The lack of a second button, scroll wheel, or any other defining features for that matter, has been a topic of scorn amongst Mac-haters and an embarresment for Mac users. It seems that they are finally making efforts to rectify the problem. Along with their conversion to Intel processor architecture they have released the Mighty Mouse, an Apple mouse aimed to cater for the new influx of PC-converts they're really hoping to get without alienating their existing user base... or, at least, those who don't toss the Apple mouse aside and plug in a real one.
My first impressions on the Mighty Mouse, however, are not great ones. Sure, the scroll ball is innovative but there have been complaints that it does not genuinely offer true 360 degree panning. The side buttons are a single button, rather than two, putting the Mighty Mouse at a distinct disadvantage to many common mice today that incorporate two or more. The top buttons require you to lift your left ringer up in order to register a right click and vice verca, and the mouse on the whole is still bloody difficult to pick up and move whilst maintaining a click.
Whilst the first impressions aren't good, we'll bring you more information if/when we get a review sample of the mouse that claims to be Mighty. As people who easily see through the Apple marketing hype, however, we're pessimistic.
