Microsoft has kindly offered to replace power cords of 14.1 million Xbox consoles worldwide to prevent fire hazards that could happen from potential electrical component failures.
"This is a preventative step we're choosing to take despite the rarity of these incidents," said Robbie Bach, senior vice president, Microsoft Home & Entertainment Division. "We regret the inconvenience, but believe offering consumers a free replacement cord is the responsible thing to do."
Consumers who have purchased an Xbox manufactured before the 13th January 2004 in Europe need a new power cord.
Those affected should go to http://www.xbox.com and click on "Power Cord Replacement for Xbox" where a new replacement cord will arrive within two to four weeks after the order is placed. In the meantime, Microsoft has advised that consumers should turn off their Xbox consoles when not in use.
