Don't nick 'em, rent 'em! (05/08/2005)

Try out some of these rental services to play more games for your money.

Sure, it's not the ultimate solution to piracy. But we at GamingHeadlines want to convince more gamers to spend their hard earnt cash on rental services so that they can play the latest titles, try before they buy, and generally stop this whole nicking-games-because-we-can't-afford-to-play-everything-we-want-to lark.

When it all comes down to it, piracy is not all that easy, and it's definately not legal but as gamers we understand the enthusiasts desire to play anything and everything of interest that hits the market. And, as many of us are still young, we also understand the cash flow problems that almost every teen gamer encounters.

So, you can continue to spend your money on those overpriced designer clothes, computer upgrades and Playstation 2 Memory Cards (Sony, you're still selling these for £20 a pop, and the games industry has the nerve to say we're stealing from them? Peh!) just as long as you resist the odd £40 dive into GAME and spend that cash instead on a few months of unlimited renting.

So, why not try renting for once... I'm sure GameTart.com, SwapGame.com, GamezNFlix and many other subscription based rental services will have something to offer you.

If you do try out a subscription based rental service then please drop your experiences and opinions in a comment on this article so that others can cross smoothly onto the path of light.. and all that jazz.

Whilst GamingHeadlines UK does not condone the piracy of games, movies or music we recognise the stagnation of all three of these major industries, their refusal to evolve with the times by offering us more legitimate download services, and their insistence on trying to sell us The Same Old Shit™. However, amongst all the Hollywood Films, Rap Music, and Doom Sequels there is are good, honest, often independant artists and developers who bring us fresh, original entertainment.

We know why piracy is rampart, it's easy, it's free, and most of the stuff we pirate we would have felt shafted if we had paid for. However, we should cast our consumer votes by not buying the poor titles, renting everything that looks good and, finally, by buying the titles truly worth buying. And buy your music from Play.com or iTunes, it's really not that expensive!
