Samurai Shodown V is one of a number of rehashed classic fighters to make its way to the 21st century. Unlike King of Fighters, however, this one has stayed true to its roots and kept the beautiful stylised 2D graphics typical of SNK's fighting games.
"The Samurai Shodown series has also been known for its willingness to tinker with its unique fighting system, and has resulted in a number of changes over the years. This instalment is no different, and offers several new features for the dedicated player. Characters can meditate in the heat of battle to affect their stats, and even slow down time for their opponent. Old faithfuls return, and talented gamers can throw their weapons down and fight unarmed."
Samurai Shodown V boasts 27 individual characters, 9 of which are completely new to the series, plus some other features including a slow-motion feature (Thanks to The Matrix we'll never see the end of them) and the Sword Spirit Gauge. It looks like it's shaping up to be my kind of fighter, with nothing really taking my fancy since Soul Calibur 1 and 2 it is about time we got another great slasher.
Samurai Shodown V will be available for PlayStation 2 and Xbox in September with a suggested retail price of £19.99.
