Released by Big Ben Interactive to tie in with their bemani title Dance UK, the Dance UK official dance mat is unlike most dance mats currently on the market. The Dance UK mat features 8 directions which can be used in the game, for those of us still struggling with the 4 in Dancing Stage this spells double trouble.
In order to make full use of 8 way dancing in Dance UK, one of these mats is a must. The mats themselves have a matte finish which makes for less slipping whilst putting on the moves, many of the cheaper mats have a glossy finish which has caused more than a few slips, considering most people like to play in their socks.
The more boisterous dancers among you will feel reassured to know that the mats are quite heavy and have a high build quality, these are designed to take a real pounding.
A common problem with mats is their tendancy to decide to continually press one button of their own accord, this is not a problem I have experienced with these mats. Another sore point amongst Dancers is that some of the mats have their arrows placed quite close together which increases the likelihood of you making the wrong step, good news for the Dance UK mats is that the button spacing although close is just far enough away to keep inadvertant mis-treads to a minimum.
As a gamer who likes to purchase only 1st party accessories, I've found buying dance mats to be a complete minefield. Until recently there were no official mats and the choice of 3rd party vendors was wide. With that choice came a great variation in quality also. I must conclude that the Dance UK mats are amongst the better hardware and I'm sure will serve even the most furious of feet well. UG
