Okay, here's the scene. It's 2 AM in the morning. There's not much light, and you're using an original Gameboy Advance. The lightbulb breaks and you can't be bothered to change it. Eventually your eyes begin to hurt so much you have to turn it off. Now you can't play it anymore. Damn. However, if you put the Gameboy Player on your Gamecube, you can play Game Boy Advance games in full screen on your TV! This means you'll be up until 5 AM playing Final Fantasy Tactics, Super Mario Advance 4 or another great title! Unless there's a power cut. But there's not much chance of that.
The GBA player costs about as much as a Gamecube game, but it's worth it. Imagine being able to fight Baby Bowser in Yoshi's Island on a big TV, or beating a boss on Final Fantasy Tactics in style when your mates come over. It's perfect for long single-player action, and you can simply take the GBA game out and change it using a special feature on the GBA player. It's a nifty piece of kit for those with eye strain.
Here's how it works; you attach the GBA player to the bottom of the Gamecube. You recieve a disc with the GBA player itself, so put it in, then slot the Game Boy Advance game into the slot on the bottom. Turn on the Gamecube and play away! You can change the screen settings, zoom in and out, change the border and much more via the special menu you can access by a quick tap of Z.
Controls wise, it's not that bad. All the buttons are the same except SELECT, which is assigned to the X and Y buttons. You can change the button settings if it's really annoying you, but you shouldn't need to. The settings are completely adjustable, so you're never in complete trouble. There's no slowdown on any games, they're the same as on the GBA, except you'll never squint again. If you're the type of person that plays GBA games around the clock, then you'll love the GBA player. It's excellent value at the price. If you don't own a GBA, it's a cheap alternative to the GBA if you own a Gamecube. It's one of those things that you'll love. JS
