MadCatz Blaster (28/02/2004)
Options: (Print) (Send)
One of the Xbox's many superb light guns, but is this the right one for you?

Presentation

The Blaster is modeled after a sub machine gun which gives it a realistic shape, but it is
coloured green and black which is okay if you’re not looking for a realistic gun, but for those who are, this Light gun is not for you. If this gun has had a more realistic colour planned for it or perhaps a set of different coloured guns, I’m sure it would look much better and appeal to a wider audience.

Set-Up

As I said earlier, the gun is modeled after a sub-machine gun with the white and black buttons on the side, the extra function buttons are also located here. The trigger is in its usual place and there is a D-Pad located near the top of the handle. There are also a couple of extra buttons included; one located on the back of the gun and one just below the trigger. Nicely done, MadCatz!

Quality

This gun is of good all round quality, but sometimes it can be a bit inaccurate, but not always. This occasional inaccurate shooting can some times mean the difference between living and dieing in a boss situation. This light gun has a number of extra buttons and feature to make the game play more varied/easier with Automatic, Burst and Shotgun firing modes and also an Automatic reloading button, this gun could be considered for those gamers with fewer firing skill. And like I said earlier, the people who could not stand the Blaster are people who want a 'realistic' feel to their light-guns, which unfortunately doesn't seem to exist with this Blaster.

Durability

This is quite a sturdy gun whilst not being too heavy or light, as far as I can tell it is quite strong, as mine isn’t yet broken! There are some heavier and lighter guns out there, but this one seems to keep the balance rather well.

Overview

Realistically, this light gun isn't really for everyone, but it could play all your favourite light gun games with extra bonus features such as a well positioned memory card slot in the actual Blaster. You could try House of the Dead III for the Xbox as a starter and read our review here if you're willing to have a go with the Blaster. SP
