Gabe Logan versus Sam Fisher
Now, I’m not a picky kind of guy. I like Tom Cruise despite his shortcomings, I like Tony Blair despite his perspiration problems. But there are some things that, well, I just can’t tolerate. One of them is the Favourite Videogame Character award of Gamingheadlines. You see, there are thousands of applicants this year. And it’s my unfortunate job to get from all of those down to just two for a final head to head.
So how do I go about this incredibly difficult task? Well, I’ve decided to crown a King (or Queen) of each gaming genre to get a place in the final stages – and then, its up to you guys to decide. This week, we’re crowning the king of undercover op games, and we’ve got three worthy applicants – Gabe Logan, heroic ass kicker of the Syphon Filter games, Sam Fisher of the next generation Splinter Cell and Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow games. The winner of this week’s battle will go head to head with Solid Snake of the Metal Gear games to crown the King of this genre. Let’s get to work.

So, not a lot’s known about Sam Fisher, and why should they? He’s a black op, a splinter cell branch of Echelon. He’s got some sleek moves, some killer sayings and is a master of stealthy motion. Having already stopped a third world war without having to worry about such outmoded and old-fashioned concepts as ‘diplomacy,’ Fisher’s only real weakness is his young daughter, which, lets face it, just adds that sentimental touch. Now Fisher embarks on his new mission (and second blockbuster game, of course), Pandora Tomorrow.
Number of games: 2
Special gaming distinctions: Superb graphics and animation, becoming a landmark pioneer in rendered special effects on both the Xbox and PS2.
So who’s cooler? Is it Gabe, with his action-packed trilogy, or Sam, with his slow, deliberate and calculated motion?
Why, it’s Mr. Fisher of course! Sorry Gabe, but you’re old news. Sam’s still kicking the seven bells out of everyone at his age - what’s your excuse?! So, Sam versus Snake in the final then. See you next time, kids. JC
